The full monthly rashan for a Pakistani family: quantities, budget tiers, what to buy in bulk vs fresh, and the Kasur same-day advantage.
· 1 min read
Every Pakistani household runs on the monthly rashan cycle. This is the complete list, organized the way the money actually flows.
The Staples (≈ half your budget)
- Atta — 10-15kg for a family of five (fortified 5kg × 2-3, or the 10kg bag)
- Cooking oil — 3-4L; the big tins win per litre
- Rice — 4-5kg, split basmati for occasions, tota/pona for daily
- Daal — 3-4kg across three varieties
- Sugar — 5kg, plus gurr in winter
- Salt — one iodized 800g pack
The Flavour Quarter
Masala packs (4-6 for the month's menus), ground spices top-ups, ketchup, tea — the 430g+ packs, and achar.
The Household Quarter
Detergent (1kg+), dishwash long bar, soap multi-pack, toothpaste family tube, and seasonal items (coils in summer, joshanda in winter).
Common Mistakes
Buying atta quarterly (it stales), buying oil in small bottles (per-litre penalty), forgetting the quarterly toothbrush change, and shopping masalas during Ramadan rush instead of before it.
The Weekly Layer
Bread, eggs, and perishables ride a separate weekly rhythm — see the Breakfast Essentials guide.
