Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Set jelly per pack, in advance — it needs hours; cube when firm.
  2. Custard: slurry the powder in a cup of cold milk; simmer the rest with sugar; whisk slurry in, stir 3 minutes, cool. Make it thick — trifle custard should coat, not pour.
  3. Layer in a glass bowl: cake cubes (optional), fruit, custard, jelly cubes; repeat.
  4. Chill 4 hours minimum — the layers need to acquaint.
  5. Top with whipped cream just before serving if using.

The trifle is Pakistan's most democratic dessert — ten minutes of skill, dawat-grade result, and a glass bowl doing the marketing.

Serving Suggestions

Glass bowl non-negotiable (the layers are the show), chilled deep, after anything heavy. Doubles flawlessly for big iftars — see the Ramadan guide.

Storage

Two refrigerated days, though fruit softens after one; assemble day-of when it matters.

Cook's Notes

Thick custard is the structural rule — the cold-slurry method prevents every lump ever reported. Jelly set in advance is the schedule rule. Everything else is decoration and joy.
